There are lots of books out there that address maternal ambivalence and the choice about whether to have children. Three that stand out to me are:
The Lost Daughter, a novel by Elena Ferrante (reviewed on my blog)
The Parenthood Dilemma, from journalist Gina Rushton (discussed here)
Empty Houses by Brenda Navarro (a novel I reviewed for Litro)
These are three very different books, but each author engages with this important topic in her own way.
To mark the launch of my new subscription plans, I’m hosting a giveaway of these three books. To enter, just join as a paid annual subscriber (now 20% off) before August 7. If you’re on Instagram, head over there to like and tag someone on the giveaway post for a bonus entry. For logistical reasons this giveaway is only available to residents of the US and UK (but the discounted subscription rate is open to all).
The new subscription plan is detailed here, but essentially paid subscribers will hear from me at least three times a month, and free subscribers will receive only one post a month. For now, I’ve removed the paywall on my most recent posts so you can see what to expect from Bad Mothers.
